The ad shown below is for VXI instruments, but the company also manufactured PC-plug-in data-acquisition cards. is certainly still in business but the company exited the instrumentation game some time ago. While compiling this list, I thought of a few more.Analogic, based in Peabody, Mass. Here are 10 companies whose names we no longer mention in the same breath as test or data-acquisition equipment. Some changed names, some were acquired, some exited the test business, and some just faded away. While many companies with ads in that section are still in the business- National Instruments, Data Translation, and Sealevel Systems, to name a few-many names are gone from our tongues. I quickly realized that I haven't heard the names of many companies for a long time. We didn't call them “modular instruments” at the time. The other day, I opened the annual buyer's Guide issue from July 2000 and turned to the “PC-based Instruments” section. The bookcase in my office has a copy of every Test & Measurement World issue from August 1992 to the last issue in 2012.
